Xochytl Quintuplet Drum Fill | Drum Lesson in 30 Seconds -- I've had a lot of requests to break this drum fill down. Rarely do I use quintuplets in a playing situation, but when I do, it's for a specific reason. In this case, I wanted to create a feeling of "falling apart". Since quints have an unsettling effect, I chose to take a double stroke roll in to quints and then to sextuplets. I used a 4 note sticking over the quints to create a quick 4 over 5 polyrhythm. I think it achieved the goal.
Anything is permissable to play, you just need to have a musical reason to play it. And it needs to fit in to the music.
